I submitted an application to become a franchise operator of the Hewitt, TX Chick-fil-a last weekend. I thought that would be a great opportunity to make some really good money, work with a class-act organization and help my dad to retire early.
Unfortunately, I received a notification today that Chick-fil-a's managed growth expansion strategy does not allow for any new locations in TX this year.
So it is back to the drawing board to see how to make my dreams of owning my own business and making a lot of money a reality.

Feeling a little guilty, you're not alone
They (and I honestly don't know who "they" are) say that you should not spend your life feeling guilty for missed opportunities - a symptom commonly referred to as regret. Well, regardless of what they say, I must admit that I feel guilty for how I acted over the past few years. When our family found out that my grandmother had Alzheimer's I was honestly glad that I lived 200 miles away and was not going to be around to watch her deteriorate. I even passed on opportunities to see her in the nursing home when I would go see my parents. Now that I can not see her again until I reach Heaven, I honestly regret not spending as much time as I could with her. At the time it was easier to just pretend like nothing was going on, but now I feel awfully selfish. I never will forget the memories that I have of the time I spent with my grandmother and I hope to one day explain that my absence during her disease was my way of coping with the inevitable.

Goodbye to a wonderful grandmother
Here is the poem that I wrote for my grandmother's funeral -
Mammie
Mammie was more than just a person to us
Cooking, cleaning, consoling without ever a fuss
She was a grandma, a caretaker, a counselor and a friend
Today is the day that her legacy begins
We thought she was super-human, never needing a rest
We never questioned that she was the best
She was the first to rise and the last asleep
That’s why it’s so hard, today not to weep
Sharing a birthday was such a neat thing
And each year we looked forward to the joy it would bring
This year was different, she wasn’t able to remember
Until we talked about memories one day in December
She wasn’t just a grandma, she was someone great
No one else can match her banana pudding or chocolate cake
Her love for us could not be measured
And our time with her will always be treasured
As a child I never thought this day would come true
And now I am just trying to understand how we all will get through
We are gathered here today with friends and family
To comfort each other in the loss of our Mammie
